Jewellery Care
Jewellery Care
All jewellery needs a little tender loving care from time to time to keep it looking its best. Here are our top tips and tricks to ensure your Emerly pieces sparkle for generations.
How to Store
Store your jewellery in its original Emerly box or an airtight container when not in use. This prevents pieces from scratching one another and helps avoid the natural dulling (tarnish) that occurs when metals are exposed to air.
Wear with Care
Jewellery should be the last thing you put on when going out and the first thing you take off when returning home.
-
Avoid Chemicals: Remove your jewellery before applying perfumes, lotions, or hairspray.
-
Keep it Dry: Remove all pieces before swimming (in chlorine or saltwater), showering, or engaging in heavy physical activity to protect the outer finish.
Cleaning Your Contemporary Pieces
For our sterling silver and gold-plated items, use a soft silver polishing cloth to gently spruce them up. Avoid using liquid chemical cleaners on plated items, as this can wear down the gold finish.
Caring for Antique & Vintage Treasures
Vintage jewellery is often more delicate than modern pieces.
-
Gentle Cleaning: Only use a very soft, dry cloth or a soft-bristled toothbrush with a tiny amount of lukewarm, soapy water for most stones.
-
Porous Stones: If your piece features Pearls, Opals, or Emeralds, avoid submerging them in water as these stones are porous and can be easily damaged.
